MID at Carat+ Antwerp Premiere

CARAT+ premier diamond event

A new trade show will launch in Antwerp, May 7 to 9, and MID House of Diamonds will be among the most prominent exhibitors featured at its debut. Called CARAT+, it is billed by its organizers as the only international fair today catering exclusively to buyers of loose diamonds, diamond jewelry and diamond-related services.

“Diamonds make up the most important category in the [greater jewelry] business, with diamond-set pieces accounting for almost half of all sales in terms of volume, and the diamond itself far and away being the most valuable product component,” stated Filip Van Laere, the CARAT+ Event Director. “But historically, when comes to trade shows the diamond category has been grossly under-catered to. CARAT+ was created specifically to rectify the situation, and to present professional buyers – be they diamond wholesalers or jewellery retailers – with a vast array of merchandise, companies and services.”

The new show is being organized by Belgium’s Artexis Easyfairs Group, which also owns and operates the event’s venue, the Antwerp Expo, the diamond city’s largest exhibition facility, which is located at its southern entrance. Access to the show is being restricted to trade professionals, with registered buyers representing the full extent of the wholesale and retail trades, internationally but more specifically from Europe, including jewelry manufacturers, loose diamond dealers, buying agents, independent stores, jewelry chains, specialty stores, catalog operators, TV shopping channels and online retailers.

Caterina Murino and Antwerp’s Great Market Square

MID will be represented at CARAT+ by members of its Belgian team, who will temporarily relocate during the show from the company’s offices in the city’s renowned Diamond District to the Antwerp Expo. The MID booth in Hall 4, Stand 4B-20, will feature a selection of the company’s massive inventory, including polished diamonds in all shapes, colors and sizes, from 0.10 carats to +10.00 carats, certified goods, with grading reports from GIA, EGL, AGS, HRD and IG, and fancy colored diamonds.

As one would expect, the show will also provide moments to relax and network. An evening event at the end of the first day of business will feature the red-carpet entrance of Caterina Murino, a Sicilian actress who starred in the 2006 blockbuster film Casino Royale, and so became the 71st member of the famed Bond Girls club.
