Showtime
Sometimes overlooked because of the massive fairs in the city in June and September, JMA Hong Kong is a show with twist. It is a cash and carry event, welcoming both trade professionals and members of the general public from one of the world’s most important markets. The split between professional buyers and general consumers is about 40 percent to 60 percent.
Established in 1988, Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA) represents the island city’s jewelry manufacturers and exporters. Known for its Hong Kong Pavilions at shows in the United States, Europe, Asia and Middle East, JMA Hong Kong is the organization’s showcase event on its own home territory.
The prospects for trade-consumer combo show are particularly bright this year. According to the Hong Kong Retail Management Association, sales at retail grew for the seventh consecutive month in October of this year, with jewelry, watches, clocks and valuable gifts outperforming all other categories, rising by 14.7 percent in value year on year.
The Diamond Federation of Hong Kong reported that polished diamond imports into the city rose by 10 percent to $9.35 billion during the first half of 2017, while exports were up 1 percent to $6.72 billion.
Already the world’s second most important diamond jewelry hub, after New York, the city is believed to have already surpassed New York as the world’s second-largest jewelry auction center, and in that respect it is already considered be on a par with Geneva.
MID House of Diamonds will have a prominent presence at JMA Hong Kong 2017, with its stand located at Booth ED2 in Hall 1 of the Hong Kong Convention Center. It will feature a large collection of white and fancy-colored loose diamonds, including blue, pink, green and yellow, in all shapes and sizes from 0.30 carats to plus-10.00 carats.
