Together, they will feature more than 4,480 exhibitors from about 50 countries and regions. In 2017, the shows attracted more than 85,000 buyers from 144 countries and regions.

While the Hong Kong shows are most definitely international, the focus is always on the Chinese market. According to a recently published White Paper on China’s Cultural Consumption Market in 2016-2017, market demand for diamond jewelry in the world’s second largest market is currently valued at around RMB 62 billion ($9.8 billion) a year, and over the next five years will grow at a rate of between 5 percent and 10 percent. This can mainly be attributed to an increase in the number of middle-class consumers and high income-earners, with massive demand stemming from the wedding market.
Baselworld, Europe’s premier watch and jewelry show, is undergoing significant change, consolidating the number of exhibitors and reducing show time this year from eight to six days. This year the show will take place from March 22 to 27 at its traditional venue, the Messe Basel in Basel, Switzerland.

The show this year will feature between 600 and 700 booths featured, considerably lower than in 2017. But Baselworld remains a major event and is intensively covered by the world media, to a great degree because of its status the watch industry’s leading trade show. In 2017, the number of buyers visiting Baselworld totaled 106,000, and about 4,400 journalists were in attendance.
After years of stagnation, signs are more positive for the European luxury markets. According to a study published by Bain and Co. at the end of 2017, luxury bounced back last year, growing by 6 percent at current exchange rates to reach €87 billion in sales, regaining the continent’s its place as the top region for luxury sales by value.
