FOCUS OF THE DIAMOND TRADE SHIFTS TO MUMBAI, FOR THE 35TH EDITION OF THE INDIA INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY SHOW

Even from an international perspective, the size of gem and jewelry sectors in India are staggering.  Contributing about 7 percent of GDP in the world’s second most populous country’s and almost 16 percent of its total merchandise exports, the two sectors collectively employ more than 4.64 million workers. More than nine out of every 10 diamonds cut and polished each year are processed in India. There is no country quite like it.

But India is also one of the world’s largest diamond jewelry markets, with annual sales worth about $3 billion, making it the third largest consumer of polished diamonds after the United States and China. Sentiments have stabilized since the 2016-2017 fiscal year, when the Indian government’s strict demonetization policy led to sales falling by about 13 percent. This year, demand for diamond jewelry is reportedly steady, with the large jewelry chains in particular demonstrating sturdy growth.

Both the country’s diamond and jewelry industries, and well as its diamond jewelry market will come under the spotlight from August 9 to 13, when the 35th Edition of the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) takes place at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC) in Goregaon, Mumbai.

More than 1,200 IIJS exhibitors will greet tens of thousands of visitors, coming from 800 cities and towns across India, and from more than 80 countries. It is strictly a B2B show, with entry allowed to jewelry and gemstone manufacturers, importers, traders, retailers and the media.

The show is organized by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), which represents  some 6,000 exporters in the diamond and jewelry sectors, with its  headquarters in Mumbai, and regional offices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Surat and Jaipur.

MID House of Diamonds will exhibit at the 2018 India International Jewellery Show in Hall 5, Area 18, Booth OB077-OB079.

MID House of Diamonds’ booths at IIJS will feature a large collection of white and fancy-colored loose diamonds, including blue, pink, green and yellow, in all shapes and sizes from 0.30 carats to plus-10.00 carats.
