MID RETURNS TO CARAT+

WORLD’S LARGEST JEWELRY AND GEMSTONE TRADE SHOW SET TO OPEN IN HONG KONG ON SEPTEMBER 12

The event that today enjoys the billing as the world’s largest jewelry and gemstone show is set to open its doors for the 36th time. The Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair will kick off on September 12 at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE), adjacent to the city’s international airport, and run all the way through to September 18, when it closes at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), in Wan Chai North on Hong Kong Island.

Given the sheer size of the fair, its organizer, UBM Asia, developed what has become known as the One Show-Two Venues concept, with the first stage centered at AWE, spotlighting  the loose gemstones and pearls sectors, for four days through September 16. It will feature the world’s largest diamond pavilion. On October 14, the second stage commences at HKCEC, focusing on finished jewelry collections, packaging, tools, equipment and industry-related technologies.

This years’ show will present 3,600 exhibitors from more than 60 countries and regions. It is likely to match and even surpass the 59,000 visitors that passed through its doors in 2017.

In line with this rosier market outlook, the surveys showed that 31 percent were preparing a larger purchasing  budget, and 23 percent of survey responders expect an increase in the unit price. Some 19 percent said that they plan to source more in terms of quantity.
